We Care, Inc. is a non-profit organization incorporated in 1975 and dedicated to providing services to enable many people to live independent, fulfilling, safe, and healthy lives at home. Services include transportation, home-delivered and congregate meals, food distribution program, convalescent equipment loans, and do-it-yourself group meetings. We Care, Inc. exists as a non-profit service to you because we receive funds from private donations, church and civic support, Heart of Illinois United Way, Central Illinois Agency on Aging, and the Illinois Department of Transportation.
A transportation service for older persons, persons with disabilities and persons in need in our area. Transportation is provided on a priority basis with medical appointments receiving top priority, followed by employment, grocery shopping, personal business appointments, local shopping, visits to hospital or nursing home, and non-funded Sunday church attendance. Nearly 70,000 rides were provided to residents of Tazewell County and 5,000 rides to residents of Woodford County last year.
A home-delivered meal program for older persons, persons with disabilities, and persons recovering from an illness. Special diets are available. An optional sack lunch, as well as the noon hot meal, are delivered Monday - Friday by volunteers. Over 9,400 noon meals and 2,000 evening meals were delivered last year.
A congregate meal program held every Wednesday at 12:00 noon at Freedom Hall in Morton. Food, fellowship and programs of interest to older persons are provided. Area churches, schools and service organizations provide help at Freedom Hall on a monthly basis for this program. About 1,200 meals were served last year.
A food distribution program for persons in need, including many children. Information and referral is provided to help recipients locate other agencies which may be able to provide additional services. Nearly 27,000 meals were provided last year and about 900 information referrals were made.
A do-it-yourself group meets at Freedom Hall, 349 W. Birchwood, Morton every Friday from 10am to 2pm. Games and cards are played. Lunch is brown-bag-it, however, the second Friday of the month is a potluck.
Walking aids and other convalescent needs are available for temporary use, at no charge.
