Programs for Babies & Toddlers

Tinker Tots for ages 2-4 years old
May 17, June 21, July 26, August 2 from 10:00 am-Noon, drop-in program.
This is a parent led sensory art program that helps develop basic coordination skills children age 2-4 need to be ready for preschool.

Toddler Time for 18 months - 4 years old
Every Friday at 9:30 & 10:30 am
Join us for fingerplays, rhymes, shakers and songs.

Baby Bounce for birth to 18 months old
May 15, June 12 & 26, July 10 & 24, August 14 & 28 from 9:45-10:15 am
Enjoy time together with your baby, meet other parents and introduce your baby to books and rhymes.

Sign & Sing
May 7 & 21 June 4 & 18, July 2 & 16, August 6 & 20 (First and Third Mondays) at 10:15 am
Join Communication Junction for rhymes, stories, bubbles and learn basic American Sign Language.

Early Nature Explorers 
Wednesdays May 2, 9 & 16 from 10:30–11:00 am 
Registration Required (May 2 & 9 at Idlewood Park, weather permitting)
Join us as we explore and learn about Nature with hands-on activities, stories, and crafts.

Science Fun Series 
Wednesdays from 10:30-11:00 am 
Registration Required – register for each session individually 
Join us for one, some or all. Please wear clothes that can get messy! 
June 13: Exploding Science - Let’s head outside to try exploding a watermelon and plastic baggies and mix soda and mentos. 
June 27: Sound Science - Learn about the science of music by creating sound and a musical instrument to take home. 
July 11: Color Science - Learn about color science and have fun with experiments such as disappearing color, color changing milk, and rainbow jars. 
July 25: Bubble Science - Explore the science of bubbles by creating your own bubble solution, making bubble snakes, and giant bubbles.

Move and Groove Storytime 
Wednesdays, August 15, 22, & 29 from 10:30-11:00 am

Come and join us as we learn basic dance moves, read a story, and learn a dance.

Rhythm & Rhyme Storytime 
Thursdays, August 16, 23 & 30 from 10:00-10:30 am

Parents and children ages 3-6 years old will march to a beat with happy feet. Sessions include stories, finger-plays, rhythm instruments, songs, and lots of fun. This is a great opportunity for a child to meet and interact with other children and gain early literacy skills. 


Programs for Grades 1-3

Lego Club for ages 6-12 
Mondays, May 7 & 21, June 4 & 18, July 2 & 16, August 6 & 20 from 3:15-4:00 pm 
Children will explore all the possibilities of building with Legos in a small group setting. They will learn to present their ideas to the group and enjoy positive feedback and encouragement.

Nature Explorers for grades 1 & 2 
Wednesdays, June 6 & 20 and July 18 from 3:00-3:45 pm

Paws to Read 
Saturday, June 9 from 11:00 am-Noon 
Registration Required 
Practice your reading skills with a furry friend! Children will be partnered with registered therapy dogs for 15 minute sessions and can read their own books or borrow one from the library.

Tinker Tech: Ozobots 
Tuesday, June 12 from 1:30-2:00 pm

Explore with these fun little robots. Draw paths for them to follow and give them fun commands!

Creative Minds Art Fun   
Mosaics - Thursday, June 14 from 4:15-5:00 pm
Registration Required
Create a mosaic piece of artwork using textured paper and small stones. Learn what design elements are used for an interesting piece while having fun. 
Decoupage - Thursday, June 28 from 4:15-5:00 pm 
Registration Required
Decorate an object by gluing colored paper cutouts onto it while creating your own design. Discover the magic of decoupage while enjoying gooey fun! Please wear old clothes because it may be messy.

Puppet Workshop by Clothespin Puppeteers

Create a small puppet and learn tips from the talented Clothespin Puppets puppeteers on how to make their puppet seem real.

Tinker Tech: Makey Makey

Explore the fun things you can do with this awesome piece of tech that turns anything into a keyboard (like playing fruit and veggie instruments)!

Cowboy & Cowgirl Camp

Kids, put on your cowboy or cowgirl hat and saddle up to the library for a rootin-tootin good time. Stories, games, and crafts will be on hand as we explore cowboy culture.

Healthy After School Snacks

G.E.M.S. (Girls Exploring Math and Science) for girls in grades 4-7
Registration Required 
Girls explore math and science topics. Presented by AAUW each month.
May 15 - 4:30-6:00 pm: Explore the engineering design process with Society of Women Engineers of Peoria using LittleBits and inchworm races. 
June 19 - 4:00-5:30 pm: Rock of Ages. Learn what’s inside a geode and create your own candy geode. 
July 14 - Time TBA: Sculpture Walk at the Peoria Riverfront Museum. Learn about the Sculpture Walk with docents John & Jeff Heinsman. 
July 17 - 4:00-5:30 pm: Art: presented by John & Jeff Heinsman, artists from Peoria. 
August 7 - 4:00-5:30 pm: Laser Razzle Dazzle. This program from CeMaST at Illinois State Univeristy explains the mystery surrounding lasers.

Old School Arts presents Painting & Tie Dying

Learn from artisans Heidi & Scott, the owners of Old School Arts who believe everyone is an artist and is unique and valued. 
June 7: Canvas Painting 
July 12: Tie Dying. Participants need to bring their own item to tie dye.

Math Magic
Mondays from 3:30-4:15 pm 
Registration Required 
July 2: Probability - learn the basics of probability and conduct experiments with dice and coins. 
July 9: Tangrams - complete puzzles and learn geometry basics. 
July 16: Measuring with Shadows - go outside and measure the light poles and trees and then use proportions to figure out how tall they are!

Cards for Hospitalized Kids 
Monday, July 23 from 4:00-5:00 pm 
Registration Required 
Come in and design handmade cards that will brighten a child’s day. All supplies will be provided and cards will be sent from the library.

Harry Potter Reader’s Theater 
July 16, 23, 30 & 31 from 3:00-3:45 pm 
Registration Required. Students attend all 4 dates.
Do you like theater and Harry Potter? Help us bring the story “The Tale of the Three Brothers” from The Tales of Beedle the Bard to life. With Reader’s Theater we will practice reading skill, building your confidence & dramatic oral expression, fluency & teamwork. Memorization is not required, but students will need to be able to read comfortably aloud in front of a group. Final performance is July 31 from 6:00 to 6:15 pm during “A Day at Hogwarts.”

Star Wars Fun Walk

Summer Reading Celebration
Wednesday, May 23 from Noon-7:00 pm
Don’t miss a minute of fun - head to the Library when school is out and register for the Summer Reading program. Join the celebration and decorate the sidewalk, make bubbles, create a tower, and take the hula hoop or limbo challenge. Discover how the Library rocks with fun programs and amazing books all summer long.

Golden Eagles Drum Circle

Join Golden Eagles, a Native American drum and dance group, to learn about drumming and learn to dance with the group.

Jeanie B
Tuesday, June 19 at 6:00 pm
Kids will be jumping, rolling, wiggling, and dancing in the garden to the music of Jeanie B. Her original lyrics and music speak to kindness, honesty, and fairness. Bring the whole family to this music-andfun-making interactive show.

Babaloo Tuesday, July 10 at 6:00 pm
Babaloo is a one-man musical comedy act for kids of all ages. Be warned: this is no run-of-the-mill kids’ crooner. A Babaloo performance is a high-energy, over-the-top, fun-filled experience.

Louie the Lightning Bug

Ameren Gas and Electric presents Louie the Lightning Bug! He’ll tell kids how to be safe around electricity and gas and teach them about the science of electricity and how to stay safe at home and outside.

A Day at Hogwarts

Come celebrate Harry Potter’s 38th birthday with magical activities throughout the library, such as games, classes*, treats, crafts, and much more! *Registration will be required for some classes.

Summer Reading Pool Party

Redeem your ticket and have fun celebrating your reading success with your friends! Take a jump off the diving board or whiz down the slide. Younger children can enjoy the splash pad with their toys. 


Brown Bag It Fridays

David McDonald Friday, June 1 at 12:30 pm Our library will rock when local musician David McDonald takes the stage. Learn the history of different instruments as McDonald plays and introduces you to several instruments he uses as the owner of the Academy of Fretted Instruments. Magician Tim Stolba Friday, June 22 at 12:30 pm Tim Stolba stands out as one of the Midwest’s premier magicians for over three decades. His high energy show is fun and appropriate for all ages.

Operation Migration Friday, June 29 at 12:30 pm Come discover what animals might be exploring in your back yard. Join us at the library for creatures from Forest Park Nature Center. Bring a friend to see the corn snake and the hissing cockroach.

Juggling Funny Stories! Friday, July 6 at 12:30 pm You’ll be laughing out loud as nationally-known family entertainer Chris Fascione brings children’s stories to life with his high-spirited and innovative performance. Full of energy, humor and imagination, Chris creates colorful characters through his unique combination of acting, storytelling, comedy, and juggling. A Storytelling World Award winner, Chris brings out the kid in everyone, as adults and children alike have fun participating in the show.

Kevin Farris and The Infinite Possibilities Friday, July 13 at 12:30 pm Come enjoy a musical movement for kids. Through song and storytelling, Kevin inspires kids to live within their creativity and evolve into a more self-aware generation. His highly interactive show will have kids moving to the beat of infinite possibilities.

Picture Book Show Friday, July 20 at 12:30 pm The Picture Book Show brings to life some of the latest and greatest in children’s literature. Enjoy a fast-paced mix of stories, puppets, and audience participation lovingly adapted from contemporary children’s picture books.

Fire Truck Visit Friday, July 27 at 12:30 pm Come climb into the fire truck and an ambulance and learn about fire safety and what it is like to be a firefighter.
