Patron Appreciation Week is February 12-17

Join us at the library February 12-17 as we celebrate Patron Appreciation Week! Each morning we’ll have doughnuts and coffee, and in the afternoon we'll have cookies and tea.

Library Director Alissa Williams will be available for questions about our upcoming spring Refresh project as well as any other library questions at 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday thru Thursday. She’ll also be available on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 17 at 10:00 a.m.


Library Refresh Project

It has been 20 years since the library opened its addition, and this spring we will be refreshing the library. This project will mean the library will be closed for a few weeks while walls are painted, new carpet is installed and the library’s departments are rearranged. When we reopen, you will enjoy a more open and welcoming lobby, a dedicated space for our young adult collection and an expanded children’s department. This project will be funded using the library’s reserves, which have been built up slowly over the past 18 years, as well as private gifts and memorials given to the library. While the library is closed our staff will be making appearances at area businesses and the Morton Park District has graciously allowed us to hold our popular Friday Toddler Time program in their meeting room at Freedom Hall. Follow our library’s Facebook page or Instagram account to learn where we are popping up during our hiatus. No items will be due during the closure and you may use your Morton Library card at any area library including East Peoria, Pekin, Tremont, Delevan and Peoria. You will also still be able to place items on hold and pick them up at a different library during the closure. While we don’t currently know the exact dates we will close we estimate it to be from mid-March to mid-April. Stay tuned for more information.

Request for Sealed Bids for Interior Renovation of the Morton Public Library

Sealed bids will be received by the Morton Public Library hereinafter known as the Owner, for the interior renovation of the Morton Public Library.

Bids for "All Work” including General; Selective Demolition; Architectural; Interior; Plumbing and Electrical Work will be received by the Owner at the Morton Public Library, CIRCULATION DESK, 315 W. Pershing Street, Morton, Illinois 61550 before 1:00 p.m. local time on February 19, 2018.

Bids will be opened publicly, read aloud, and recorded in the Morton Public Library, REULING MEETING ROOM.  Bids will be held good and may not be withdrawn for a period of 30 calendar days from the date of receipt.

A "Pre-Bid" Meeting will be scheduled at the Morton Public Library, REULING MEETING ROOM, 315 W. Pershing Street, Morton, Illinois 61550 on February 7, 2018, at 10:00 am local time. Prospective bidders are required to attend. 

Commencement of the work on the project shall be subject to the discretion of Owner.  The Owner reserves the right to waive any irregularities and to accept any or reject all bids when, in the opinion of the Owner, such action will serve the best interest of the Owner.

Bids on all work of this contract shall be subject to the provisions of the "Illinois Prevailing Wage Act"

Each bid must be accompanied by a bid bond or a cashier’s check in the amount of 5% of the total bid, made payable to Morton Public Library, as a guarantee that the successful bidder will promptly execute a satisfactory contract, will furnish a satisfactory performance bond, payment bond and insurance and will proceed with the work.  The successful bidder shall be required to provide a Performance Bond and a Material and Labor Payment Bond in the amount of 100% of the Contract Amount, as well as liability and property insurance as required by the Bid Documents before commencing work. The successful bidder shall enter into a formal contract based on the conditions and requirements in the Bid Documents and the Bid Documents will be incorporated into the Contract.

2018 License Plate Discount Help

A volunteer will be available on Wednesdays from January 31-March 7, 2018 to assist applicants in filling out the Benefit Access Application that provides the license plate discount. Assistance is available by appointment only from 9:30-12:30 pm. Please call the library to schedule an appointment at 309-263-2200.

There is no charge for this volunteer service

The Benefit Access Application provides a $75 license plate discount for one vehicle and a “ride free transit” card for residents in cities with public transportation. Anyone who applied in 2015 for this discount needs to reapply again this year, as the previous approval was for two years. There are no paper forms to apply for this benefit. Applications must be filed online at

New applicants who meet the requirements may apply for the first time. Requirements for the Benefit Access Application are: Illinois resident, at least 65 years old or at least 16 years old and disabled. The income maximum is $27,610 for one person, $36,635 for a two person household and $45,657 for a three person household.
