Get A Library Card

Where do I start?

Live in the Morton Library District

If you reside within the Village of Morton limits, you are in the Morton Public Library District! You’ve already paid for your library card through property taxes, either as a homeowner or a renter. Homeowners can check their property tax bills to see if they pay taxes to the Morton Public Library.

If you’re not sure if you live within the district, click the button below to send us an email so we can check for you.

Gather your Documents

Show us WHO you are and WHERE you live. If your state-issued photo ID is valid and shows your current address that is all you need!

Otherwise, bring in a valid photo ID (this shows WHO you are) AND a bank statement, apartment lease, utility bill (to show us WHERE you live).

Visit the Library

Bring your documents with you to the Library and speak to a librarian about getting your library card!

Each member of your household may also receive a card with the following provisions: those under the age of 14 must have permission of a parent or legal guardian. Cards are valid for three years and may be renewed in person.

Student Library Cards

Students who live outside of the district but attend a District 709 school, Bethel Lutheran School, or Blessed Sacrament School may also be eligible to receive a Morton Library card. To receive a student card, bring proof of address as well as proof of school enrollment.

These Cards are made possible through Intergovernmental Agreements with District 709, Bethel Lutheran, and Blessed Sacrament.

Nonresident Cards

If you live outside the Morton Village limits, in an area that does not have access to public library service, you may be eligible to purchase a non-resident library card from the Morton Public Library. A non-resident card must be purchased from the public library closest to the patron's home address. Your non-resident card is good at most libraries in Illinois. In lieu of taxes, out of district borrowers pay a fee of $140 for one year, effective September 1, 2021.
